JOB LOCATION: Varies

HOURS/DAYS SCHEDULE: Varies based on class schedule

POSITION OVERVIEW:

As a Safety Instructor, you will have the opportunity to provide a positive program participant experience while teaching the American Red Cross curriculum. You will offer a quality program, promote social responsibility and build relationships with the members of your program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Prepare lesson plans.
  2. Demonstrate and teach activities.   
  3. Conduct program in a fun, positive atmosphere.
  4. Know emergency procedures and be able to demonstrate them.
  5. Report specific problems or needs to supervisor or designated staff person.
  6. Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
  7. Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.
Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions
  2. Online New Employee Safety Orientation
  3. Intro to Y’s Cause & Culture Online Course
  4. Current Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED & Bloodborne Pathogens Certifications or equivalent (Taking the Lifeguard Certification gives you all the listed certifications)
  5. Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Certification

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively with people and monitor property and activity
  2. Ability to remain alert at all times
  3. Ability to adapt to changing working conditions

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Good communication skills
  2. Ability to work with diverse group of people
  3. Good organizational skills
  4. Ability to work with minimal supervision
  5. Ability to teach/train program participants
  6. Attend trainings and/or courses as required by the YMCA
